At The Fit O’ The Toon
Arbroath’s Fishing Folk
‘At The Fit O’ The Toon’ is an illustrated story/guide to the history of the fishing folk in coastal Scottish town Arbroath. The book is in a concertina format, designed to act as a mini exhibition. All the images are connected and flow from page to page to create one image. I also designed postcard prints that could be sold alongside the book and showed how the illustrations and text could be used to create wall murals for a real exhibition.
The illustrations and colour pallet are inspired by old family photographs, which were the main influence behind the whole project. Some of the detailing and texture was made using scanned versions of the real photographs. This collaged effect means that each illustration features a real connection to the people and places of Arbroath’s Fit O’ The Toon.
